Three-Dimensional Rock Block Analysis

This project focuses on the collapse process of a system of rock blocks. Starting from the description of the rock escarpment and its associate fracture system, the objective is to develop a three-dimensional model with a mechanical description.
Within this approach, the first step is to get the numerical topography of the rock surface, which is obtained by a laser scanning process. Then, the internal cutting of the solid mass is estimated  from the observations of fractures on the surface. The obtained rock block system is thus represented by a set of polyhedric discrete elements.
The evolution of this system is simulated by using the Discrete Element Sofware YADE, which uses an explicit integration scheme to solve the dynamic equations.

The global volume is now made of five different blocks, ready to be represented by polyhedric discrete elementsEach block is then filled by tetrahedrons which will be considered as discrete elements
